It has been some time I wrote last time on my blog and lot of things happened from my last article. I moved from Indonesia thought New Zealand to Central and now to South America. During this time I started to write some articles which I never posted. So I pushed myself to sit down and finally write new post and more importantly to finish it. What it should be about? How are travellers changing year by year.
When I travel from country to country I have opportunity to see how people who travel are changing based on destination. What is for me really interesting to see. In same time thanks to that I found at least one thing which makes me sad. Because more and more people who are travelling travel only to party / get drunk and then they post everywhere how they are good that they travel in such a dangers countries. Well first of all most countries I visited I don’t consider as dangerous and for sure I have nothing against parties during travelling. The only thing is where is the limit. If I travel on the other side of the world I want to see something new not just sit in the hostel play games on the PC or chat with all my friends and every evening get drunk. Then when going out complaining that roads are bad, buses are ugly, food is not like in my country because this kind of food I don’t like or that my new skirt got dirty after 10 minutes. About ignorance of culture the country people are travelling at is better not to talk at all. When I see that people complain that: “This country is so bad because nobody speak English. Do they think I will try to learn at least little bit? Why should I do it? They should learn.” Then I little doubt about their intelligence. Can you then explain me why do you travel? Isn’t it better to stay at home go out with your friends you know well and avoid all the “complications” connected with travelling?
In my case I every time travelled to see new places, meet new people, better understand other cultures and thought that become richer like a person… I know that time go fast and things change but where are the times when you entered hostel or met foreigner on the street and I could talk almost with everybody, about everything because the goal we had was basically more or less same? To see the world … Now almost everybody take care about himself and is hard to meet somebody who is “normal” and really enjoy staying in the country. Or am I really so different or distinct from others? As some people told me: “You are not normal because who would travel so long and is interested in all these things (mentioned above) if you can see it on National Geographic”? Hmm let me think…. Me? And also few other people I met on the way? I have to thank God that we are not same and we can still see difference between people and cultures even though it start to be more and more difficult… But travel just to be “in” seems to me quite stupid.
